Success Story

Full-time job for Rajee after Study Programme and Traineeship

Rajee Kaur moved to the UK in 2015 – seeking asylum with her parents who were forced to flee their home in war torn Jalalabad, Afghanistan. She was just 18 at the time and could speak very little English and had no academic qualifications.

Rajee’s local Jobcentre Plus referred her to Skills Training UK in Hounslow and she started on the Study Programme before enrolling on a Traineeship in Business Administration. Following lots of her own hard work and support from teaching staff Rajee – now aged 20 – passed Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications in English, maths and BTEC and completed work placements at BT, the British Heart Foundation and Gull Law Chambers solicitors in London.

In March 2016 she joined national discount retailer Home Bargain as a sales assistant, before later finding full time employment with Lawmen Solicitors in Hayes as a receptionist.

“In Afghanistan I was home-schooled by my parents and a tutor – so I had no qualifications. When I arrived in the UK I was keen to better myself and I wanted to start a formal education. Skills Training UK has made that a reality.

The teachers and staff were very supportive – I liked the way they explained everything to students. It has helped me a lot in terms of my education as well as improving my confidence, interpersonal skills, teamwork and preparing a CV.
