Success Story

Bright future for Martina with Study Programme and Traineeship

Martina Soldati was just 15 when she moved from Italy to London with her younger sister. She was unable to enrol in full-time education and was referred to Skills Training UK – signing up for the Study Programme.

She soon progressed onto a Traineeship and now – at the age of 17 – she has found part time employment as a sales advisor with national footwear retailer Clarks.

As well as ensuring customers are happy and that display areas are kept neat and tidy she is also responsible for managing stock. It is a role that she could only have dreamt about two years earlier.

After a work placement at Superdrug in Harlesden, Martina progressed to a Skills Training UK Traineeship – completing more qualifications in maths and English along with others in retail and customer service. A work placement at Clarks in Kilburn followed and she was offered a part time position.

As well as continuing to work at Clarks, Martina is now studying art and design at Uxbridge College, as well as completing GCSEs in maths and English.

“When I came to London I tried to get admitted to an Academy along with my sister, however, unfortunately, because of my age it wasn’t possible. They referred me to Skills Training UK at Wembley and they gave me an opportunity.

Thanks to the full year, both Study Programme and Traineeship, my work skills in both retail and customer service have improved, as well as my English. I’m only 17 but thanks to Skills Training UK I have a future. They’ve given me an opportunity to go forward and progress.
