Health and Care with Infection Prevention and Control

This Traineeship is the perfect gateway into a career in Health and Care. It combines the wide-ranging Level 2 Award in Health and Care (by Gateway) with the in-demand Level 2 Award in Infection Control (also by Gateway).

You will learn about working in health and social care, person-centred approaches to care, communicating effectively and equality and inclusion in health, social care and young people’s settings and infection prevention and control.

These qualifications will be coupled with employability skills training and a high-quality work experience placement, will enable you to progress on to further education, an Apprenticeship or a job.

What does a learner need to do?

Attend regular classes either in-person or online.

Allow time for project work and study each week.

Talk to your training for support and guidance if you need more support.

Bring a positive attitude to class and any work experience to make sure you get the most from the opportunity.

Course Content

Gateway Qualifications Level 2 Award in Health and Care

The course comprises a set of mandatory units and a set of optional units which may cover topics such as:

  • Person-Centres Approaches
  • Equality and Inclusion
  • Protection and Safeguarding
  • Stroke Awareness
  • Understanding Risk

Gateway Qualifications Level 2 Award in Infection Prevention and Control

On completion of the award, learners will know:

  • How infection is spread and why some individuals are more vulnerable than others
  • How to manage the risk of infection
  • How to use personal hygiene and PPE to contribute to infection control
  • How to reduce the risk on infection in relevant settings
  • How to encourage the adoption of practices that reduce the risk on infection in workplaces

Eligibility

There are no qualification requirements for the course. If you need support in English and Maths, this can be included in your Traineeship.

Qualifications

Gateway Level 2 Award in Health and Social Care.

Gateway Level 2 Award in Infection Prevention and Control.

Assessment

The qualification will be awarded to learners who successfully achieve an approved combination of units, demonstrated by a portfolio of evidence.
