Non-Destructive Testing Operator Level 2

Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Operators are responsible for performing inspections of materials, components or welds to verify their integrity under set conditions.

You will learn about product technology, engineering, inspection techniques and health and safety. The skills developed by an NDT Operator, whilst singularly focused on one NDT method, are transferable across all engineering sectors such as manufacturing, power generation, transport, oil and gas and defence.

This Apprenticeship is delivered in partnership with specialist NDT Training schools, including Lavender International, IMechE Argyll Ruane and the South West School of NDT.

What does an employer need to do?
  • provide the learner with the opportunity to take part in work and projects which to produce a portfolio of evidence required for Apprenticeship assessment and completion.
  • Take part in progress reviews at regular intervals.
  • Have some involvement in the project(s) being undertaken.
  • Allow the apprentice an agreed amount of classroom time.

Eligibility criteria

For NDT Operator Level 2 the individual employer will decide whether an employee is suitable for the programme. There is a requirement to have good aided or unaided eyesight to satisfy the mandatory NDT eyesight test and have appropriate physical fitness.

Apprentices without level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the End Point Assessment.

Qualifications and professional recognition

In the NDT Testing Sector, apprentices are required to achieve NDT Level 2 certification in one method in accordance with national and international standards.

End Point Assessment

To successfully complete the apprenticeship, the learner needs to pass an independent End Point Assessment which consists of three distinct assessment methods:
