Improvement Specialist Level 5

Improvement Specialists are responsible for leading the deployment of improvement strategy, for training others and for providing broad and deep technical expertise in Lean and Six Sigma.

They specialise in leading and delivering project and change management, and improvement opportunities aligned to key business goals. They often manage and coach other improvement staff.

Improvement Specialists work across all industries.

Typical Job Roles: Business Improvement Expert, Continuous Improvement Consultant, Process Excellence Manager, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, Business Improvement Consultant, Business Transformation Consultant.

What does an employer need to do?
  •  provide the learner with the opportunity to take part in work and projects which to produce a substantial portfolio of evidence required for Apprenticeship assessment and completion.
  • Take part in progress reviews at regular intervals.
  • Have some involvement in the project(s) being undertaken.
  • Allow the apprentice an agreed amount of classroom time.

Eligibility criteria

The entry requirement for this apprenticeship will be decided by each employer. It is typically Improvement Practitioner Level 4 or equivalent.

Qualifications and professional recognition

Level 5 competency.

End Point Assessment

To successfully complete the apprenticeship, the learner needs to pass an independent End Point Assessment which consists of two distinct assessment methods:

  • Examination based on case studies
  • Professional discussion underpinned by portfolio evidence gathered during the Apprenticeship

Each assessment method will be individually graded as fail, pass, merit or distinction.
