Employer Story
Lindab was founded in 1956 in Sweden as a small sheetmetal shop. Going from strength to strength it is now an international group that designs, manufactures and distributes products and solutions for improved indoor climate. Lindab have 155 offices and factories based in 32 countries and 80% of their market is made up of products for non-residential construction.
The company takes pride in the high quality, energy efficiency and eco-friendliness of their products. One of Lindab’s core values is to simplify the construction process, whether that be in design, the product itself or its installation and delivery.
Lindab UK is headed up by Joint Managing Directors, Mike Goodspeed and Iain Robertson, who strive to make the company a leading manufacturer in the indoor climate market.
Skills Training UK have been working closely with Lindab since 2015 to deliver Team Leading and Management apprenticeships. The courses cover a wide array of topics and modules ranging from leadership styles to problem solving to communication techniques.
The employees are now taking ownership of their work, which is great. The training has helped them to come up with new ideas on how to benefit the business and its production.
Mike Goodspeed, Joint Managing Director, Lindab UK
The staff members who have taken part in the Level 2 Team Leading and Level 3 Management apprenticeships have seen many improvements, most notably, how to develop organisational techniques for themselves and the teams they lead as well as improving communication and efficiencies in production.
Since joining the company I’ve been keen to introduce accurate data capture and Lean Manufacturing Principles into our organisation. The training and workbased projects have been the catalyst to deploy the tools and techniques. Employee involvement has resulted in buy-in from our workforce and the projects will deliver on a number of goals including improved health & safety and productivity
Andy Allen, Production Manager, Lindab UK
This course gives everyone room for improvement because we all learnt so much. It helps no end in my day to day tasks as well as for the future of Lindab’s mass production. The thing I really liked was the fact that we’d be doing something new and interesting each time and it’s so refreshing. It made everyone closer as a team and it was certainly a great way to improve upon my existing skills and to build new ones – the training has been excellent!
Saxon Barber, Assistant Manager, Management Level 3
My organisational skills have improved a lot, not only in my workstation but also when I’m organising people. I’m a lot more aware of the placement of machinery and how that can be changed to increase efficiency. Skills Training UK were brilliant and I could clearly see how much our trainer assessor helped everyone, including myself. But she also made time for all the staff which I thought was really important as it shows they care.
Jeff Glover, Line Leader, Leadership Level 2
I’ve learnt a lot, mainly about the principles of how to lead and organise a team effectively within our work environment. Skills Training UK have been extremely helpful and they’ve taught us a lot, the whole course was very enjoyable and I’d highly recommend other companies to do it as well.
Terry Browne, Line Leader, Leadership Level 2
For me, this course has opened my eyes about the different methods there are on how to lead a team. I’ve learnt a lot about the health and safety aspects and how companies are run and structured to increase productivity and motivation. As well as learning new things, I’ve also refreshed old skills. We had a brilliant trainer assessor and even though the work was challenging, she helped me to understand it in a way that was suited to me.
John Wilson, Line Leader, Leadership Level 2
